James S. Herndon, Ph.D., Ed.D.
Dr. James Herndon is the founder and Director of IGO Metrics, a consulting enterprise specializing in individual and organizational assessment and development. Previously, he was the Senior Consultant with Global Executive Resource, Inc., providing assessment and forensic consultation services to law enforcement agencies throughout the State of Florida. Prior to that, he served as the Orange County (FL) Sheriff’s Office Staff Psychologist for 10 years (1992-2002). Duties and responsibilities included pre-employment psychological testing and specialty assignment evaluation, hostage negotiation team assistance, critical incident stress debriefing, and management consultation. Before taking that position, he served as Executive Director of Police Psychological Services of Hampton Roads, Inc., in Norfolk, Virginia. Previous professional experience includes 13 years as a personnel specialist, personnel psychologist and management analyst with the Federal government.
Dr. Herndon is very active as a core faculty member at Webster University Orlando, where he serves as the Human Resources program mentor. He is also an adjunct faculty member of Columbia College Orlando, Saint Leo University, and Palm Beach Atlantic University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in group/team dynamics, organization development, organizational behavior, human resources development and management, psychology (introductory, I/O and forensic), crisis intervention, research methods and statistics. In addition to teaching, he holds or has held leadership positions in several professional societies (e.g., COPPS; SPCP), and he is on the editorial board of the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology.
Dr. Herndon’s professional training is in human resources management (M.A., Pepperdine University), industrial/organizational psychology (Ph.D., Old Dominion University), and counseling psychology (Ed.D., University of Sarasota). He has earned five Diplomates in areas of Board Certification, to include Police Psychology, Forensic Examination, Psychological Assessment, Evaluation and Testing. He has presented/published more than 200 papers and articles. He is a USAF Vietnam-era veteran; and, he has practiced Japanese martial arts for more than 40 years. In his spare time, he is a serious genealogist and family history researcher. A Virginia native, he currently resides in Longwood, FL.
